JOOTA AWARDS 2023 Judging
The judging committee for the 4th Tokyo International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition “JOOTA AWARDS 2023” was held from late April to the end of May 2023.
A lawyer appointed by the organizer assigned a secret code number to each oil to ensure the anonymity of the samples. The quality award judges and special award judges, selected by the organizing committee, judged extra virgin olive oils from around the world by blind tasting.
Intense Battle for the Quality Award: Winning Oils Determined!
The exceptional extra virgin olive oils that have won the JOOTA AWARDS 2023 “Quality Award” have been determined. The Quality Award is divided into four categories based on the type of fruitiness and intensity of fruity attributes, and includes a total of six categories, including extra virgin olive oils made in the Southern Hemisphere and Japan. The titles of “Gold Award,” “Silver Award,” “Bronze Award,” and “Excellence Award” are awarded in each category. Furthermore, the “Best Award” is presented to the top product among the Single Variety Extra Virgin Olive Oils, Blended Extra Virgin Olive Oils, and Country-specific Extra Virgin Olive Oils (if the conditions are met).
The Quality Award is judged by international experts in quality evaluation active in the olive oil industry, government and public organization-certified olive oil “tasters,” and quality assessment experts from panel and laboratory certified by the International Olive Council (IOC).
This year, we had a significant increase in the participation of high-quality extra virgin olive oils compared to last year, leading to an incredibly fierce competition at a remarkably high level, with close battles fought till the end.
Only the finest extra virgin olive oils, truly deserving of the “Quality Award” title, competed against each other, and the winning products for 2023 have been determined.
